This is the first model year for the Subaru Ascent. It is offered in four trim levels: base, Premium, Limited, and Touring. It can carry up to eight people. Passengers will enjoy nineteen cup holders, and charging outlets for all rows. Along with Subaru’s standard all-wheel drive system, the Ascent offers:

  • Standard active vehicle hold
  • Up to 5,000 pounds towing capacity

What Does the 2019 Subaru Ascent Compete With?

The 2019 Ascent competes with the following SUVs:

Subaru is known for its small sedans and tall wagons. The Ascent expands the brand’s appeal to larger households and growing families.

Exterior Design of the 2019 Subaru Ascent

The 2019 Ascent is designed to carry people. It doesn’t offer a hint of off-road intent.

The base model comes with 18-inch alloy wheels. Dark gray-finished 20-inch wheels come with Limited and Touring vehicles. The mid-level Premium can add the larger wheels as well. Only four shades of gray paint are offered on the base Ascent. The color selection doubles for Premium and Limited trims.

A prominent front grille suits the Ascent’s size. The trailer hitch is hidden behind a removable access panel. Other standard features include roof rails, black power-foldable outside mirrors, and a rear spoiler.

Also available:

  • Body-colored outside mirrors
  • Chrome door handles
  • LED adaptive headlights
  • LED fog lights
  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Power liftgate with height memory

Interior Style in the 2019 Subaru Ascent

The interior of the 2019 Ascent is very functional. Not spartan, but there is a noticeable lack of embellishments. Black cloth fabric comes with the base model, and the Ascent Premium gets ivory. Limited models get the same colors but in leather. The Touring features an exclusive java brown leather. Mid-level trims have the option of seven or eight seats. The base model has eight only; the Touring just seven.

Cargo capacity is cavernous at 86.5 cubic feet. That’s in addition to the underfloor storage tray. The Subaru Ascent can carry kayaks, sports equipment and camping gear.

Available interior comforts include:

  • Heated and cooled seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Stain-resistant cloth seats
  • Keyless entry with push-button start
  • Tri-zone climate control

Active vehicle hold will maintain the brake pedal control when the vehicle is at a stop. It helps prevent driver fatigue.

The Subaru Ascent is equipped with trailer stability assist. The tow rating is 2,000-5,000 pounds depending on equipment.

On the freeway, the Ascent is confident and smooth. The 2.4-liter turbocharged engine provides 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. It is paired to a CVT with an eight-speed manual mode. Paddle shifters are standard.

Visibility is good thanks to long, wide windows. An available Smart Rear-View Mirror and a 180-degree front-view camera display expand the view.

Should I Buy a 2019 Subaru Ascent?

The Ascent is smartly packaged and designed. And Subaru has a good reputation for reliability and safety. The Subaru Ascent was engineered with families in mind.

Should I buy a Used 2019 Subaru Ascent? Are There Any I Should Avoid? Yes. If you can find one. Since this is a new model, shoppers won’t find many used Ascents for sale.

How Much Does the 2019 Subaru Ascent Cost?

Rollover Note

Dynamic (moving) test results (Tip or No Tip) and measured rollover-related properties determine vehicle's risk of rollover in single vehicle crash and its rollover rating. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is.

Male: Average sized adult male dummy in 35-MPH crash into fixed barrier. Rating is evaluation of injury to head, neck, chest, legs. Female: Small-sized adult female dummy in 35-mph crash into fixed barrier. Rating is evaluation of injury to head, neck, chest, legs.
