Description

Cadillac CTS Wagon Overview

The Cadillac CTS Wagon aimed to change the perceptions of Americans who remembered the “station wagon” as a lumbering, gas guzzler. However, that doesn't mean that this vehicle skimps on providing enough space. The wagon edition offers comfortable seating for five occupants and 28 cubic feet of cargo space. The seats provide ample legroom for 6-foot riders in the front and the rear seats. Variable suspension choices enable you to choose your comfort level. These wagons are a natural evolution of the CTS Sedan. Demand for more cargo space led to wagon development. Cadillac's answer was the CTS-V in 2010. After the birth of the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon, demand indicated a taste for more power. The manufacturer responded, producing new models until 2014.

Exterior Design

The exterior of CTS-V delivers a feel of sauciness peculiar to the Cadillac brand. The front grille is distinctive, and the sleek side panels draw the eye to the rear. The roof is raked to add another sporty dimension with a spoiler integrated into the flow. The Cadillac CTS-V Wagon came in the following colors:

  • Phantom Gray Metallic
  • Mocha Steel Metallic
  • Red Obsession Tintcoat
  • Majestic Plum Metallic

What Are the Standard Exterior Features of the CTS-V Wagon?

Dealers offered 18.5-inch spoke polished alloy wheels and 19-inch ultra-silver painted wheels. The best standard features are:

  • Automatic LED angular headlights
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • LED daylight running lights that extend into the bumper
  • Chrome grille
  • Sporty side outlets
  • Raised engine hood with large vents
  • Long thin taillights that reach to the roof
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Quad-pipe exhaust system with chrome-tipped pipes

Interior Features

Designers endowed the CTS-V Wagon with ample window space to let in natural light. The windows provide an open and airy feel to the interior. As noted by some reviews, the feel is that of luxury. The Cadillac CTS is a laid-back vehicle that provides plenty of room for each occupant. Headroom and shoulder room add to the feel of space. The seats let you find the angles that give the comfort level you crave. You'll find that the dash, doors, and walls are padded and elegantly stitched to add texture to your ride. The center console and armrests offer a gentle touch, raising comfort levels higher than those found in competing vehicles. The cargo area is immense. There is 25 cubic feet of space available with all seats occupied. With the rear seats folded, the cargo space expands to 53.4 Cubic feet.

What Are the Interior Amenities of the CTS-V?

Dealers offer several interior options through packages. The best standard interior amenities are as follows:

  • Sophisticated climate control
  • Eight-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Leather upholstery
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Leather steering wheel

Technological Advantages Found in the Cadillac CTS Wagon

Technology has come a long way since the Cadillac CTS was first released as a sedan in 2003. The manufacturer, General Motors, maintains a lead in taking advantage of technological advances. These features come standard:

  • Keyless ignition
  • Thirteen Bose Premium Brand speakers
  • HD AM/FM radio
  • Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone calls
  • USB connections for charging smartphones
  • Hands-free entry

Safety Features

The manufacturer goes beyond safety regulations to equip the CTS-V Wagon with the highest level of safety for all occupants. While regulations remain in place to protect occupants during an accident, engineers included the extras that avoid accidents. The list of technological assists include:

  • Blind spot and lane departure warning systems
  • Turn signal mirrors for more visibility of intent
  • Forward collision warning system
  • Stability control that detects and prevents possible rollovers
  • Traction control that senses wheel spin rates and adjusts power to maintain traction
  • Tire pressure monitors to inform when tires are losing air
  • Four-wheel ABS
  • Emergency braking assist that senses objects and applies brakes to avoid accidents

Drivability

The latest version of the vehicle came standard with a 3.0-liter engine that delivers 270 horsepower. A 3.6-liter engine with 318-horsepower is an optional item. The car also came standard with rear-wheel-drive and has an option with an all-wheel-drive. The suspension system maintains smooth driving even when taking street corners at a fast clip. The 8-speed manual shiftable automatic transmission adds a steady speed climb during acceleration. This transmission system helps the car move quickly with a throaty roar. However, news on the CTS-V Wagon's fuel economy is not exemplary, no matter which engine you use. Fuel economy with the 3.0-liter engine gets you 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The 3.6-liter motor gets a 17 city and 26 highway ratios.

Are There Benefits to Buying a New CTS-V?

Cadillac stopped releasing new models of the CTS-V Wagon after 2014. However, that hasn't stop consumers from seeking unused versions of the vehicle. A new suspension provides a smoother ride. The quiet engine only reveals its existence when opened up, and then bellows as a car should. The noise dampening system in a new car has seen no environmental deterioration.

Are There Benefits to Buying a Used CTS-V?

Pre-owned models from any year are showing remarkable resiliency on the market. Reports of increasing value regularly erupt from reviews. A well-cared-for CTS costs nearly the same as a new one. With the limited time that these cars have been available, however, there is not enough information to claim the Cadillac CTS Wagon as a pre-owned success story.

Pros and Cons of the 2014 Cadillac CTS Wagon

Model History

The History of the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon

The original version of the Cadillac CTS was first released as an executive car in 2003. The wagon edition hit the market late in 2010. Before added options, the CTS-V Wagon would retail from around $88,000. However, sales of the CTS-V Wagon were minimal through 2011. It was not until 2012 that it found a place in the European market. The CTS-V then ventured into a niche area in Europe where station wagons are in demand. In Europe, the station wagon (or Estate) is more popular than the coupe or the SUV. The coupe is considered too limited in use and the SUV too cumbersome in performance.

With the introduction of its CTS Wagon in 2010, Cadillac was late to the race. Every European car manufacturer already occupied the niche. Volvo, Volkswagen, Fiat, Mercedes, to name a few cornered the market. The lack of power in the Cadillac CTS Wagon led European consumers to other, non-American manufacturers. Gradually, sales improved, and Cadillac added the upgraded CTS-V to its wagon lineup in 2012. The newer Cadillac CTS-V used a larger engine with higher horsepower. However, it still reported similar comfort and performance levels as the CTS Wagon After 2014, the Cadillac CTS-V disappeared in wagon form as a result of reduced demand. Before 2014, Cadillac realized some profit from the wagon in the U.S. market. By 2015, the number of sales for the CTS Wagon in the U.S. escalated as word reached the general public of its comfort and price. Over time, sales of the wagon model of the CTS have expanded most in the U.S. While it may no longer be on the market, the Cadillac CTS Wagon has since gained a cadre of enthusiasts who view the future as "wagon time."

Rollover Note

Dynamic (moving) test results (Tip or No Tip) and measured rollover-related properties determine vehicle's risk of rollover in single vehicle crash and its rollover rating. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is.

Note

Male: Average sized adult male dummy in 35-MPH crash into fixed barrier. Rating is evaluation of injury to head, neck, chest, legs. Female: Small-sized adult female dummy in 35-mph crash into fixed barrier. Rating is evaluation of injury to head, neck, chest, legs.
